Premium Domain NamesPremium Domain Names- Premium domain names are mentioned and sought after. But what exactly are premium domain names and why would you want to buy a premium domain name? This article explains the draw of premium domain names. Premium domain names! What Are Aftermarket Domain Names? The standard meaning of aftermarket is products or services that are sold to a customer after an initial purchase is made. Examples include items to soup up a recently purchased car, for example. But this is not the meaning in the world of domain names. A domain name that has been used by someone previously is called an aftermarket domain name. There are several kinds of aftermarket domain names. One type is expired names on which the former registrant has failed to pay the renewal fee, either from intent because they no longer wish to have them or from forgetfulness. Another is premium domain names. What Are Premium Domain Names? Premium domain names are domain names that have been previously owned but also have several other particular attributes: • They are limited in the top-level domains (extension after the dot in the URL) they may have, generally to .biz, .com, .info, .net, and .org, with .com often being the most valuable; • Domain names that are shorter and contain highly trafficked keywords will be valued the most; • Premium domain names are often easy to recall, which is part of what makes them valuable; • They have usually been registered for several years and often advertise their established rate of traffic and their search engine ranking; • There may be a set price of as much as in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there have reportedly been sales in the millions. A domain name appraiser is often engaged by the seller to establish the value the domain name, and when the value is considered to be very high, although the buyer can ask for a copy of the appraisal the seller has had done, the buyer is likely to want an independent appraisal. It should be noted that all domain name appraisals are speculative and to not represent a firm value. Sellers who hold names that they suspect will be very valuable to someone may choose not to sell through a specialist resale website, but do it themselves and price the name for what they believe they can get somebody to pay. Why Would You Want a Premium Domain Name? Have you ever looked for a domain name only to find that it was already registered? Many times, people end up registering a second, third, fourth, or fifth choice name because registering domain names is a first come, first served proposition. But just because a domain name was gone when you made your initial choice doesn’t mean it will always be that way. A name that you missed the first time around may show up in the domain names aftermarket. And let’s face it: cars.com is easier to remember than thebestdealoncars.net or buy-cars.biz, the first being way too long and the second likely to lose traffic because people forget the hyphen. Another reason people might wish to purchase a premium domain name is when there’s a project in which time is of the essence. If you need to move your site along at top speed, having an established platform and traffic to build on can be the leg up you need. Finally, unlike an untried and untested domain name, premium domain names have a demonstrable history. This fact can make them a more desirable choice than another name that seems equally good but has no track record. One warning: it’s important to distinguish premium domain names from premium domain listings. The first includes domain names that are considered to be of superior value. The second is a souped up service offered to sellers of domain names. How Do You Get Premium Domain Names? Premium domain names are often sold on domain auction websites like GoDaddy auctions and domain listing services like Afternic. If you see a listing for a name you’re interested in, you can make an offer. You may pay more with a flat fee, but with an auction, as with other types of auction, there is a chance of losing the property you want if another bidder makes a better offer. In any case, if you go to a reputable seller, an escrow service will be used for the transfer to ensure that everything is safe and fair. Related Article: Cheap Domain Names >>
